The disturbing Halloween-style MASKS that show how smoking ages the skin and causes horrifying cancers

# The masks show the horrors of mouth and throat cancers, macular degeneration and periodontal disease, plus premature ageing of the skin

 # They were inspired by health warnings on cigarette packets and are part of Health Express' Stop Smoking campaign this month

 # Actors wearing the masks will be out and about in cities known to be home to many smokers to highlight the dangers of the addict

As well as highlighting the horrors of mouth and throat cancers, macular degeneration and periodontal disease, the masks (pictured) show premature ageing of the skin and early greying of the hair, as part of a new campaign

The man's grey hair is the result of added stress on his body, while crows feet around his eyes are brought on by squinting to protect his eyes from smoke fumes.
His eyes have irregularities and lumpy tissue on the white of the eye due to irritation from the smoke, while the hardening of the carotid artery makes a stroke six times as likely compared to a man who does not smoke 20 or more cigarettes a day.
The final mask is of a 30-year-old female who has skin damage to her lips, which is a visual symptom of mouth cancer.

The girl's teeth and gums have been damaged by tobacco products, which deplete gum tissue and expose tooth roots to periodontal disease, while there is nicotine staining on her imperfect teeth.

Help for couples trying to conceive

More than ever before statistics have shown that it now takes some expectant spouses longer and difficult time to get pregnant. For most couples trying to conceive, they probably have wondered if it will ever be, how long it will take to get pregnant, when to have sex, and how often, what are the natural methods or mediums if surgery is not the option. It may surprise you to know that sometimes the needed remedy or remedies may not be the big things such couples have not done, it may just be the little basic thing they overlook. There are some factors that can affect couples’ chances of getting pregnant, most especially the woman.

It’s never too early to protect your bones

Simple biology teaches us that, generally, the bone protects the delicate organs of the body — in addition to being the framework that props up the skin and gives it shape. Without the bones, the skin would just be a drag, literally.
Scientists say at birth, we have about 270 bones, which systematically fuse together as we grow. By the time we reach adulthood, the normal adult human has 206 bones in all; and this underscores the importance of the skeleton to overall human health.
Bone functions
Scientists say the skeleton provides the framework that supports the body and maintains its shape. For instance, they say, without the rib cages, costal cartilages, and intercostal muscles, the lungs would collapse.
Again, the joints between bones allow movement, with some allowing a wider range of movement than others. “Movement is powered by skeletal muscles, which are attached to the skeleton at various sites on bones. Muscles, bones, and joints provide the principal mechanics for movement, all coordinated by the nervous system,” scientists enthuse.

Natural cure for cataracts, glaucoma validated

Can extracts of bitter kola (Garcinia kola), garden egg (Solanum melongena) and pepper fruit (Dennettia tripetala) provide the elusive natural cure for eye diseases especially cataracts and glaucoma?

UNTIL now, they are renowned for their bitter and peppery tastes. They have been validated in clinical trials for treating various ailments such as osteoarthritis, food poisoning, indigestion, and heartburn, among many other disease indications.
But now researchers are adding more feathers to their caps. Extracts of bitter kola, garden egg and pepper fruit have shown promise as the next best eye drugs in town.

Garcinia kola of the family Guttiferaceae is an indigenous herb in Nigeria colloquially referred to as “bitter kola”, “false kola” or “male kola.” Garcinia kola has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic, antimicrobial and antiviral properties.
Botanically called Dennettia tripetala, pepper fruit belongs to the plant family Annonaceae. It is called Ako in Edo, Nkarika in Ibibio, Mmimi in Igbo, and Ata igbere in Yoruba.

Beware of these in food products

A list of food products and ingredients banned in several places around the world was released recently. Surprisingly, many items on the list are still available in Nigeria.
It is not unexpected that a host of the banned ingredients are disguised and passed off as “safe” and “healthy”. Here are tips for avoiding the offending ingredients.
Artificial food colourings – Today, many companies are removing artificial colours from their products, so a little research should help you find safe alternatives. Many common snack foods contain Yellow #5 in their ingredient list, but it’s not the only artificial food colour that is banned in other countries. Blue #1, Blue #2 and Red #40 may also cause health problems.

Baby elephant 'cries' for five hours after mother tried to stamp him to death shortly after birth!

Horrified zookeepers were forced to intervene after a female elephant attempted to stamp her calf to death shortly after he was born.
The female elephant had stepped on baby Zhuangzhuang almost immediately after giving birth at a Chinese zoo on August 30.
But vets initially thought it was an accident. They removed the calf to treat his injuries and returned him to his mother two hours later - but she started to stamp on him again.

Keepers drove her off and took the little elephant away.

WALKING TO WORK LOWERS DIABETES, HYPERTENSION RISK.......

PEOPLE who walk to work are 40 per cent less likely to develop diabetes and 17 per cent less likely to develop high blood pressure than those who drive, according to a new study.
Researchers analysed data from 20,000 United Kingdom (UK) residents to examine how the ways they travelled to work affected their health.
Walking, cycling and using public transit all were linked to a lower risk of being overweight than driving or taking a taxi. People who bicycled to work were about half as likely to have diabetes as those who commuted by car.

The study also found that 19 per cent of people who used private transport – such as cars, motorcycles or taxis – to get to work were obese, contrasted with 15 per cent of those who walked and 13 per cent of those who cycled.
Modes of getting to work varied widely in different parts of the United Kingdom. For example, 52 per cent of people in London used public transit, compared with five per cent in Northern Ireland, according to the study appearing August 6 in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.
High blood pressure, diabetes and being overweight all are major risk factors for heart and circulatory disease. The new findings show that people could reduce their risks of serious health problems such as heart attacks by avoiding car commutes, the researchers said.
“This study highlights that building physical activity into the daily routine by walking, cycling or using public transport to get to work is good for personal health,” Anthony Laverty, of the School of Public Health at Imperial College London, said in a college news release.
“The variations between regions suggest that infrastructure and investment in public transport, walking and cycling can play a large role in encouraging healthy lives, and that encouraging people out of the car can be good for them as well as the environment,” he said. Although the researchers uncovered an association between walking or cycling to work and decreased risk of diabetes and high blood pressure, they did not necessarily prove a cause-and-effect link.

High coffee consumption raises premature death risk

IF you are already holding your first coffee of the morning, you might want to put it down. Because drinking four cups a day could raise your risk of dying young, researchers warn – but only if you are under 55.
They found that consuming 28 cups of coffee a week increases the chances of premature death in younger people by half.  The findings come from a large- scale American lifestyle study of 43,727 individuals aged 20 to 87.
The United States researchers suspect excessive coffee consumption may adversely affect the body’s metabolism, outweighing some of the known health benefits. Individuals with a ‘genetic coffee addiction’ may be prone to these harmful effects, they suggest.

Higher fruits, vegetables intake may reduce bladder cancer risk in women

UNIVERSITY of Hawaii Cancer Center, United States researcher, Dr. Song-Yi Park, along with her colleagues, recently discovered that a greater consumption of fruits and vegetables might lower the risk of invasive bladder cancer in women.
The investigation was conducted as part of the Multiethnic Cohort (MEC) Study, established in 1993 to assess the relationships among dietary, lifestyle, genetic factors, and cancer risk. Park and her fellow researcher’s analyzed data collected from 185,885 older adults over a period of 12.5 years, of which 581 invasive bladder cancer cases were diagnosed (152 women and 429 men).

FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER

Every woman should know the symptoms and signs of breast cancer...

Symptoms of Breast Cancer

• Lumps

The first noticeable symptom of breast cancer is typically a lump that feels different from the rest of the breast tissue. Usually the lump persists after the menstrual cycle. Lumps associated with breast cancer are usually painless. They are visible on a mammogram long before they can be seen or felt. More than 80% of breast cancers are diagnosed due to self-exams.

Get Your Toddler Talking

Up until now, having a conversation with your child has been a pretty one-sided affair. But look out! Here comes a speech tsunami. Between the ages of 2 and 3, kids start picking up words faster than you can say "chatterbox." Just check out the stats: at age 2, most children know 20 to 200 words; by age 3, that number soars to about 1,000.
Toddlers don't hit those high numbers on their own, however. "Parents have a huge impact on their kids' language and speech skills," says Janet Felice, speech-language pathologist and coordinator of clinical services at the Atlanta Speech School. And the more you encourage your child to chat, the better he'll do inpreschool and beyond. "When kids start school, teachers expect them to have a pretty strong vocabulary," says Felice. "If your child doesn't develop a solid foundation as a toddler, he may struggle to keep up with the class."
Reading to your child is one of the best ways to help him start talking up a storm, but there are tons of other creative methods to encourage him. Our all-fun, no-frustration lesson plan will give your toddler plenty of practice using the four key components of speech.

Activities to Boost Language Development: 18-24 Months

Your toddler is at a stage where she is constantly learning language from you. Jamie Loehr M.D. and Jen Meyers, authors of "Raising Your Child" suggest these activities in order to encourage healthy language development. Here are few activities that can help:

Read Together

Read to your child every day, several times a day. Discuss the illustrations when you're looking at books together. Ask your child to tell you what she sees. Ask her to point out specific items on the page. Read alphabet books to lay the ground-work for learning the ABCs
(more activities after the cut.)

Always appreciate what your given, whether small or big

There was a man who loved his wife very much.
He could give her everything he could but the woman never a
ppreciated.
Though the man was not rich, but he could share all he had with her.

He could buy for her clothes and the only thing his wife could say was that the husband was fulfilling his duty as a Man.

The man would buy a dress but in reply, the woman would mock at him, because the dress was of low quality.
The man could smile at her wife and tell her
"one day, I will become rich and I will buy for you all the expensive things you need"

The woman could never make any phone call unless she was requesting anything from her husband and once her request was not granted, all she could do was to quarrel for days, sometimes fight.

Baby, we need to talk.

Boy: Baby, we need to talk.
Girl: Ricardo, what do u mean?

Boy: Something has come up...
Girl: What? What's wrong? Is it bad?

Boy: I don't want to hurt you, baby.
Girl: *Thinks* Oh my God, I hope he doesn’t break up with me... I love him so much.

Boy: Baby, are you there??
Girl: Yeah, I'm here. What is so important??

Boy: I'm not sure if I should say it..
Girl: Well, you already brought it up, so please just tell me.

Boy: I'm leaving...
Girl: Baby, what are u talking about?? I don't want you to leave me, I love you.

Boy: Not like that, I mean I'm moving far away.
Girl: Why? All of your family lives over here.

Boy: Well, my father is sending me away to a boarding school far away.
Girl: I can't believe this.

Could these words be costing you your dream job?

5 Questions You Should Never Ask in a Job Interview

Questions You Should Never Ask in a Job Interview

Hiring managers and HR pros will often close out a job interview by asking an applicant if he or she has any questions themselves. This is a great opportunity to find out more about the job and the company's expectations, but you can't forget that the interviewer hasn't stopped judging YOU. Here are 5 questions that can make a bad impression on your interviewer, scuttling your chances for getting the job.

1. "When will I be promoted?:
This is one of the most common questions that applicants come up with, and it should be avoided, says Rebecca Woods, Vice President of Human Resources at Doherty Employer Services in Minneapolis. "It's inappropriate because it puts the cart before the horse."  Instead of asking when the promotion will occur, Woods says a better approach is to ask what you would need to do to get a promotion.

2. "What's the salary for this position?"
Asking about salary and benefits in the first interview "always turns me off," says Norma Beasant, founder of Talento Human Resources Consulting and an HR consultant at the University of Minnesota. "I'm always disappointed when they ask this, especially in the first interview." Beasant says the first interview is more about selling yourself to the interviewer, and that questions about salary and benefits should really wait until a later interview.

Few Things That Will Make Your Interviewer Hate You

You probably know most of the interviewing tips that can help you forge a connection with a potential employer. Now it’s time to learn some of the things you must avoid in an interview to ensure the interviewer doesn't end up hating you by the end of it.

These things really do happen. Just make sure they don’t happen to you.

1. Jump at the chance to trash your former boss. “An interviewer will dislike you if you respond to the question, ‘What advice would you give your former boss, if asked?’” says Lee Evans, CEO and career coach at Free-Job-Search-Websites.com, adding that this is a trick question. “The interviewer will interpret your negative response as the answer you might give when asked about a manager at the interviewing company. It's also a test of your ability to respond appropriately to sticky questions. Your interviewer and prospective employer will side with your former manager, and view you as difficult to deal with.”

Instead: Keep your responses professional and watch for trick questions.

Ways to Increase Your Milk Supply

Some ways to  Increase Your Milk Supply

Breastfeeding mothers all have a common concern: is my baby getting enough to eat? Am I producing enough milk for my baby? Many times moms worry simply because they no longer have a strong noticeable milk letdown reflex once the milk supply has become established. Or else they notice their breasts are no longer so full between feedings. These are actually signs that your body has adjusted to breastfeeding and your baby's demands for milk.

How Do You Know Baby is Getting Enough During Nursing?
- Baby seems satisfied after feedings. If baby isn't frequently fussy and seems to be full and content, chances are he is getting plenty at nursing sessions.
- Baby has several wet diapers a day and the urine is colorless. Seeing a lot of yellow tinged urine means concentrated urine, which is a sign of dehydration.
- Expect baby to gain four to seven ounces a week if baby is getting sufficient nutrition.
- Another subtle clue? Baby gulps during feedings.
- Regular poopy diapers. Every baby is different but expect at minimum a soiled diaper a day.

Activities to Help Your Preschool Child Succeed

Fine Motor Skills: 3 Activities to Help Your Preschool Child Succeed

child playing with blocks

The term, “fine motor skills” refers to small muscle movement; and for preschoolers, the focus is hand and finger coordination. In order to get dressed, feed themselves, hold a crayon, and later learn to write, young children use the small muscles in the hands and fingers. To adequately develop fine motor strength and coordination, preschoolers need to use their fingers and hands on a daily basis.
Fine motor development is crucial for preschoolers, but the good news is there are plenty of artsy, fun and age appropriate ways to help children strengthen their tiny hand and finger muscles.

Activities such as painting, cutting, and drawing that your child does now are steps that later will help your child learn to write, type, knit, do home repair, etc. Most kids will be excited about the activities suggested below, all of which are all playful and fun.
Parents, use the following tips to help your child develop the muscles in their hands and fingers and to prepare your child for success in school and life.

5 Fun Activities to Promote Good Writing Skills

Before entering Kindergarten, a preschooler is expected to have basic writing skills.  He or she should be able to recognize and write letters in the alphabet and write his or her own name.  According to information in the book “Smart Start,” by Pam Schiller, researchers have found that doing activities that use fine motor skills will stimulate the brain.  Great news for parents and children alike, because playing with messy stuff, like play dough and beads, is a very useful tool when learning how to write – and it‘s fun.

Along with exercising fine motor skills, reading a lot to a preschooler is the best way to expose your child to letters and words.  Reading is an important gateway into writing.  Patricia Winward, a literacy interventionist, suggests giving preschoolers a head start at writing by helping them learn the association between uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and punctuation.  Knowing their relations can improve their ability to recognize letters and help them understand how words and sentences are constructed.
Activities that incorporate fine motor skills and letter exposure are a fantastic way to help your preschooler develop good writing skills. Here are a few:

The ABCs of potty training

Most parents eagerly anticipate toilet training as a milestone in their child's development, if for no other reason than that it means an end to changing diapers. But few moms and dads are prepared for how long toilet training can take.
Sure, some children master it within a few days, but others can take several months. In general, the younger your child is when you start to toilet-train, the longer it takes.
You and your child have a better chance of success if you understand the elements of training and approach the process in a clear fashion. Here are the basic steps:

Ways To Keep Your Marital Relationship Fresh!

Here goes:

 1) Express Physical Affection This one was an easy one to see as an engaged couple. The longer some people are married, the less they touch. So we decided we wouldn’t do that. We decided we would always love holding hands, sitting arm in arm, and snuggling up to each other. Life has it’s way of getting busy and this one can easily fall by the way-side. We’ve had to remind each other from time to time, but I’m thankful that this hasn’t changed much since the day we were married
.

 2) Listen to Each Other This one sort of snuck up on me, and Dana is better at it. I really have to work at this. But when we’re together, there’s usually one of us leading the conversation. Usually Dana has more to say—she’s a woman. (And that’s not an insult, by the way.) But we both have our moments of “needing to be heard.” And I think we both value the sound of the other’s voice. I meet some husbands who get tired of “listening”— don’t do that. Be thankful that YOU are the one she’s chosen to talk to! What a compliment!

Few Daily Habits That Will Make You Happier

Happiness is the only true measure of personal success. Making other people happy is the highest expression of success, but it's almost impossible to make others happy if you're not happy yourself.

With that in mind, here are nine small changes that you can make to your daily routine that, if you're like most people, will immediately increase the amount of happiness in your life:

1. Start each day with expectation.

If there's any big truth about life, it's that it usually lives up to (or down to) your expectations. Therefore, when you rise from bed, make your first thought: "something wonderful is going to happen today." Guess what? You're probably right.

2. Take time to plan and prioritize.

The most common source of stress is the perception that you've got too much work to do.  Rather than obsess about it, pick one thing that, if you get it done today, will move you closer to your highest goal and purpose in life. Then do that first.

3. Give a gift to everyone you meet.

I'm not talking about a formal, wrapped-up present. Your gift can be your smile, a word of thanks or encouragement, a gesture of politeness, even a friendly nod. And never pass beggars without leaving them something. Peace of mind is worth the spare change.

Identical Twins Marry Identical Twins and it Doesn't End There!

You don’t see identical twins everyday. The chances of having identical twins is 3 in 1000 so it’s not something that happens everyday and that makes them something special, in my book. I actually lived in Twinsburg, Ohio for a year, which is where they hold an annual twins convention, which made this story even more interesting to me.

Identical twin brothers, Mark and Craig Sanders were at the annual twins convention in Twinsburg, Ohio in 1998 when Mark met Darlene Nettemeier in the hotel lobby. Darlene and her identical twin sister, Diana, were visiting relatives who lived near the convention and decided to stop by.
Mark experienced love at first sight when he met Darlene and he wanted to introduce his brother, Craig, to Darlene’s identical twin sister, Diane. To make a long story short, two brothers met their identical twin soul mate sisters. After dating for a while, the men proposed to the ladies on the same day, with the exact same engagement ring.

To take the identical twin theme even a bit further, they had a double wedding and the ladies even wore the exact same dress design and their father walked them both down the aisle together in 1999. But, they didn't stop there with twins...

In 2001, Craig and Diane gave birth to identical twin boys, Colby and Brady. What are the odds? Glad you asked. The odds of identical twin brothers, marrying identical twin sisters and then one of the couples giving birth to identical twin sons in one in millions.
Mark and Darlene have 2 little girls and Craig and Diane have the identical twin boys and another son. Due to genetic makeup, all five of the children are technically considered siblings but reason, and the fact that they have different parents, makes them cousins. If your mind is not completely blown away by this family and you are not seeing double yet, the families live next door to one another in Houston. Holy smokes, it must be hard to have an identity of your own in that family.

Then again, wouldn’t it be awesome to have two of you?
I’m not a twin but I would think that after awhile you would want to stop having who you are permanently tethered to someone else. I think this story is very cool but if I had a sister, who looked just like me, living right next door with her husband that looked just like mine, I’d feel like I was always being compared to her and that would get old really fast. I’d imagine the price of having a built in best friend is losing some of your own independence and identity.

I wonder if the spouses ever mistake the wrong person for their partner? Or what about the children do they call Auntie Darlene Mommy accidentally and vice versa? Either way, I bet life is confusing for their Houston neighbors.

20-Month Old Boy Survives On Sucking Cow’s Breast After Parents Left Him!

This is quite weird as a Cambodian man says his young grandson has lived partly on milk he suckles directly from a cow since the boy’s parents left their rural village in search of work. Um Oeung says 20-month-old Tha Sophat started suckling the cow in July after he saw a calf do the same. Um Oeung told The Associated Press he pulled the boy away at first. He relented after his grandson protested loudly and the boy has suckled the cow’s milk once or twice a day since then. Tha Sophat has lived with his grandparents in Siem Reap province in northwest Cambodia since his parents moved to Thailand looking for work. Um Oeung said Friday the cow doesn’t mind the boy suckling but he is worried about his grandson’s health if he continues

Muhammad Ali’s Tearful Advice To His Daughters On Indecent Dressing0 Comments

I came across this timeless piece of information on Facebook, and we think it might interest, inspire, and elicit a change of attitude to at least one person.
An incident transpired when Muhammad Ali’s daughters arrived at his home wearing clothes that were quite revealing.

Here is the story as told by one of his daughters:
“When we finally arrived, the chauffeur escorted my younger sister, Laila, and me up to my father’s suite. As usual, he was hiding behind the door waiting to scare us. We exchanged many hugs and kisses as we could possibly give in one day.

My father took a good look at us. Then he sat me down on his lap and said something that I will never forget. He looked me straight in the eyes and said, “Hana, everything that God made valuable in the world is covered and hard to get to.
Where do you find diamonds? Deep down in the ground, covered and protected.
Where do you find pearls? Deep down at the bottom of the ocean, covered up and protected in a beautiful shell.

Where do you find gold? Way down in the mine, covered over with layers and layers of rock. You’ve got to work hard to get to them.”
He looked at me with serious eyes. “Your body is sacred. You’re far more precious than diamonds and pearls, and you should be covered too

ALWAYS LOVE LAUGH AND HUG........

A famous doctor told his patient: “I’ve been in practice for 30 years and I’ve prescribed many things. But in perspective, I’ve learned that for most of what ails us humans, the best medicines are always love, laughter and hugs. What if it doesn’t work?” the patient asked. ~ Just keep increasing the dosage. There are no side effects.”

.

Beautiful story.............

A very poor man lived with his wife. One day, his wife, who had very long hair asked him to buy her a particular comb for her hair to grow well and to be well-groomed. The man felt very sorry and said no. He explained that he did not even have enough money to fix the strap of his watch he had just broken.

She did not insist on her request. The man went to work and passed by a watch shop, sold his damaged watch at a low price and went to buy a comb for his wife. He came home in the evening with the comb in his hand ready to give to his wife.

He was surprised when he saw his wife with a very short hair cut. She had sold her hair and was holding a new watch band.
Tears flowed simultaneously from their eyes, not for the futility of their actions, but for the reciprocity of their love.

Reasons Women Lose Respect For Men

I just thought I should share this ...If a woman loses respect for you as a man, she will also lose attraction and begin to fall out of love with you. It might’ve taken you a long time to find “the one” that you’re now in love with, but unless you’re careful about avoiding the following mistakes, she’ll soon be thinking about backing out of the relationship for good. Let's have some clues...

1. Belittling Her in Public Playful teasing each other in private can be a fun aspect to your relationship, especially if it’s kept light and you both have understand each other’s sense of humor.

Too often though, some men will belittle their woman in front of their friends or family in a way that she feels is cruel and sincerely harmful to her confidence and sense of pride and comfort in front of others. In an effort to “show off” to his friends or because he believes that some “habit” his girl has is silly, some guys will say hurtful things about their girlfriend/wife. Even if it’s done when she’s not there, what the man says about his woman is probably going to get back to her eventually and she will feel betrayed and lose respect for him when it does.

C) Nigeria
The prayers for some of you minimized the deaths of prominent Nigerians in the last year. Don’t stop praying.

D) International
Prominent world leaders need lots of prayers as not to die in office
Prominent church leaders need prayers against planned scandals.
Weather conditions may get worse, much worse, unless prayers intensify.
Expect a major breakthrough in medicine.
Nations who pass unholy laws, will have a taste of divine fury.
