Checklist: Babyproofing

Now that you've got a crawler on your hands, it's time to babyproof -- again.

Throughout the house

[  ] Move all dangerous items (cleaners, knives, heavy objects, medications, etc) to cupboards and drawers out of baby’s reach

[  ] Latch closed any cupboards, doors and drawers within baby’s reach to avoid pinched fingers or unaccompanied explorations; purchase baby-safe doorstops for every door to prevent accidental closings

[  ] Put lockable covers on garbage cans, or place in latched cupboards

[  ] Move all electric cords behind furniture or under rugs

[  ] Secure heavy furniture such as bookcases and cabinets to walls to prevent accidental tipping

[  ] Put televisions and other heavy items on sturdy furniture, and move as close to the wall or corner as possible

[  ]
Move all tall, wobbly lamps behind furniture

[  ] Put baby gates or fences at the top and bottom of every set of stairs, no matter how short the flight

[  ] Block access to all floor heaters and radiators

[  ] Use garden fences or plexiglass to block any space of more than four inches between stair or balcony rails

Colorful fruits, vegetables may be key to cancer-fighting diet

Many cancer-fighting fruits and vegetables are at their nutritional peak in the fall, and it’s a good time to incorporate them into your diet, a nutritional expert advises. For example, research suggests that eating an apple a day really may keep the doctor away, by helping to prevent throat, mouth, lung and possibly breast cancer, noted Stacy Kennedy, a senior nutritionist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Apples contain a nutrient called quercetin, which protects the cell’s DNA from damage that could lead to cancer.
“The key is to eat them raw and with the skin on. That’s where many of the nutrients are found,” Kennedy said in an institute news release. Cranberries, another healthy fall favorite, are in season and at their nutritional peak now.

Recognizing a stroke by asking three simple question

Stroke has a new indicator! They say if you forward this to ten people, you stand a chance of saving one life. Will you send this along? Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue: During a BBQ, a woman stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) ...she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Jane went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. Jane's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 PM Jane passed away.) She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Jane would be with us today. Some don't die.

Couple Celebrates 80th Wedding Anniversary, Shares Secrets to Lasting Marriage

I wish my self this

PHOTO: Ann and John
Betar will celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary on November 25th,
2012. The couple eloped in 1932 and have raised five children, 14
grandchildren and 16 great children.

On Nov. 25, 1932, FDR had just defeated Herbert Hoover, the daily newspaper cost two cents, and Ann Shawah said "I do" to John Betar in Harrison, N.Y.
Fast forward through 13 presidents and 80 years to 2012: the Betars are still happily married. After five children, 14 grandchildren and 16 great children, the couple from Fairfield, Conn., will celebrate their 80th wedding anniversary Sunday.
"We are so blessed. We are fortunate," John Betar, 101, said.
"We are very fortunate. It can be repeated and repeated," Ann, 97, echoed. "It is unconditional love and understanding. We have had that. We consider it a blessing."

What's their secret?

"They have this wonderful ability to accept life as it comes," their daughter Renee Betar said. "They have a way of trying to look around at the things that they do have -- the family and the blessings. They came from a generation where there is such respect for each other and caring."
The Betars consider themselves "fortunate." Hesitant to dole out advice to newlyweds, they each offered simple, guiding mantras to a lasting marriage.
"Get along. Compromise. Live within your means and be content," Betar said, before adding, "And let your wife be the boss."

Chicken Adobo Recipe

Adobo is the immersion of raw food in a stock comprised variously of paprika, oregano, salt, garlic, and vinegar to preserve and enhance its flavor. The practice is native to Spanish cuisine. It was widely adopted in Latin America and other Spanish colonies around the globe, particularly the Philippines, where Filipino adobo is something of a national dish. There are many ways to cook adobo.

The cooking instruction below is the simplest way to cook this delicious dish. Ingredients 2 tablespoons vegetable oil, olive oil is better
3 lbs chicken thighs
3/4 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 tsp peppercorns (crushed)
1/4 tsp salt
3 cloves garlic (chopped or crushed)
2 bay leaves
1/4 of a medium onion (chopped)
2 medium size potato, cut into cubes (optional)

Instructions

1. Put all the ingredients in a casserole, mix it well and marinate for more than one hour.
2. Bring to boil, and then let it all simmer for about 40 minutes (or until the chicken is thoroughly cooked.)
3. If you want to add potatoes, cook it separately for best results. Fry it in low heat until soft (do not overcook).
Then mix it in the adobo when cooked.

What Did You Do All Day? (ALL MEN MUST READ THIS!)

A man came home from work an...
d found his five children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife’s car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog. Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess.

From God to my dear Daughther

Dear Daughter,

I have sent you to a man's house to be a blessing to him and 'help' him achieve the goals I gave him. He's not like you at all. He's burly, quite insensitive. You'd be surprised he might not even realize you've come to help! So, to help your task and protect you from being on the receiving end of his imperfections here are some vital instructions.

1. Don't ever try to fix him, if
...
he ever develops a fault, I'm his manufacturer and you will need to talk to me about him. You're his wife, not his God. I don't particularly like it when you think you can change him and you attempt to take my place.

2. Well, I'm your God too, but your husband is my deputy in your life. To get the best of him, you need to respect him like you do me. Get more instructions on this from your grandmother Sarah.

An Independent Woman who Stands Beside her Man

In my marriage, sometimes I stand beside my husband,
shoulder to shoulder facing the world together.
Sometimes I stand in front of my husband, particularly when he is tired and just needs a break. And there are other times when I stand behind him.

It doesn't make me weak
It doesn't mean I am unequal
It doesn't mean I am silenced
It doesn't mean my husband makes all the decisions

Where I am standing has nothing to do with my worth or with my level of independence

What Makes a Healthy Relationship?

Hopefully, you and your significant other are treating each other well. Not sure if that's the case? Take a step back from the dizzying sensation of being swept off your feet and think about whether your relationship has these seven qualities:

Mutual respect. Does he or she get how cool you are and why? (Watch out if the answer to the first part is yes but only because you're acting like someone you're not!) The key is that your BF or GF is into you for who you are — for your great sense of humor, your love of reality TV, etc. Does your partner listen when you say you're not comfortable doing something and then back off right away? Respect in a relationship means that each person values who the other is and understands  and would never challenge — the other person's boundaries.

Top 10 Things to know about raising Daughters.......

I am sharing with you the Top 10 'need to know' things I have read about raising girls: (Sounds funny but guess u can pick one or two....)

 1. Invest in toilet paper. Seriously! You might want to think about ordering in toilet paper by the truck load. The older they get, the more toilet paper they use and we easily, and I mean easily go through 25 - 30 rolls per week.

 2. Have a good hiding place for toilet paper. (If the kids see your stock pile they won't be as careful about not using so much because they will think that you are almost out. I hide mine in the stow-and-go in my minivan.
